VENTANA RIESLING
The Ventana Vineyard has produced the grapes for Gold and Silver Medal winning Riesling wines for over 25 years. To our knowledge no other vineyard in the world has met this record.
To retain the intense fresh fruit flavors from the vineyard, the winery immediately presses the fruit gently using a European press. The juice is quickly transferred to cooling tanks to initiate cooling and settling and to retain the delicate flavors. Stainless steel fermentation and aging is the preferred method for this bright flavorful wine.
Tasting Notes
Ventana's Riesling has a tart/sweet composition on the palate. The nose is explosive with apricot, orange peel and flowers. Green apple, honey, fig and apricot mingle on the palate. The residual sugar is offset with sufficient acidity to display a fine balance. This is not a typically sweet California Style Riesling. We prefer an Off-Dry style (Alsatian) that allows the fresh stone fruit components to be forefront but with some acidity for a lively mouth-feel. Try Ventana Riesling with the spicy-hot flavors of Thai cuisine or Szechwan. This varietal is still one of the best choices with dried fruit and hard cheese.
