2004 MEADOR ESTATE 'BLOCK 3' SAUVIGNON BLANC
Winemaking Notes
In the seventies, we identified this clone of Sauvignon Blanc as having superior merit. We subsequently discovered that it had a particular love for an area of rock and gravel down sloping to the river. The last decade “Block 3” has consistently displayed characteristics we prize highly.
The grapes for this wine are hand-selected according to flavor, quickly pressed to juice and allowed to settle while chilling. The juice is then transferred to near- neutral French oak barrels for fermentation and aging. Our artistic approach focuses upon preserving and enhancing the unique qualities of the fruit and site relationship. There is no infusion of oak flavors as that would detract from the expression.
Tasting Notes The wine displays a light clonal floral aspect in the nose along with fresh mown hay notes with some citrus tones. On the palate, the generous acidity combines with classical old-world Sauvignon flavors that bring such delight to the table. Sauvignon, in our perception is a wine for the table – a companion to food. This rendition serves us perfectly - aroma, flavors, structure, acidity, and finish.
