The State Fair Commercial Wine Competition is the oldest and most prestigious wine competition in North America and is open to California bonded wineries selling retail. The competition is limited to California wineries.

2002THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS WINE COMPETITION

The Dallas Morning News Wine Competition was established in 1985 in order to provide consumers with a gudie to high quality wines. For the 2005 competition, they received 3,064 entries and had 49 judges who awarded 1,136 medals.

GRAND HARVEST AWARDS

The Grand Harvest Awards is a unique wine judging that spotlights American viticultural regions by identifying the most outstanding wines from these areas. The 2005 event judged over 1,300 entries from both the United States and Canada, and a few from overseas.

SAN DIEGO NATIONAL WINE COMPETITION

The judges of the San Diego National Wine Competition includes winemakers, wine writers, educators, wine trade professionals, and wine enthusiasts with experience and proven proficiency judging wine. In 2003 it became the third-largest wine competition in the nation with more than 2,700 entries in 2003.

THE SALINAS VALLEY FAIR WINE COMPETITION

The Salinas Valley Fair includes 282 international producers who sent in over 1,300 different wines to King City, each with the hope of draping their bottles with a medal from the Monterey Wine Competition. This year judges awarded 100 gold medals, 257 silver medals and 474 bronze medals. About 30 of the gold medal winners were nominated for the sweepstake.

WEST COAST WINE COMPETITION

The event is sponsored by Vineyard & Winery Management , whose wine competition experience spans more than 25 years, and is operated by a nucleus of industry professionals. Participants now include wineries from California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and New Mexico as well as producers in British Columbia, Austrailia, New Zealand and Western Mexico.

NEW WORLD INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION

Jerry D. Mead's New World International Wine Competition was established in 1990. It was his desire to establish a wine competition that, for the first time in America and perhaps the world, to pit the best wines from each price class against each other resulting in a Best of Variety award.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY FAIR WINE COMPETITION

The L.A. County Fair wine competition is the oldest county fair wine tasting in the nation. The event began in 1935 with only 16 judges and fewer than 200 wines. Today, 80 international wine professionals will taste approximately 4,000 wines from more than 700 wineries over the course of three days.

RIVERSIDE INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION

The Riverside International Wine Competition exists to encourage the development of all wines made worldwide by recognizing wines of excellence. There were over 3,000 entries this past year.

INTERNATIONAL EASTERN WINE COMPETITION

The IEWC was established in 1975 to judge and promote all wines marketed in the United States and Canada. Today, it is one of the largest and most competitive tastings in North America, topping over 2,300 entries in recent years with wines from 16 countries and 34 states.

SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION

In 2004 a record breaking 565 California wineries entered more that 2,500 wine entries for the competition from wine regions in California. In 2005, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is open to all commercial bonded wineries with wines bottled or grapes produced from California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho wine regions.

PACIFIC RIM INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION

As one of the largest and most respected wine competitions in the west, the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition receives entries from throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand. The Pacific Rim International Wine Competition has grown from approximately 100 entries in 1985 to over 2200 entries in 2005.
