Born and raised in South Carolina, Betsy graduated from the Honors College at the University of South Carolina with a dual degree in International Business and Marketing. As a Rotary Scholar, she spent a year at the University of Costa Rica studying international trade and development, where she also interned as the International Marketing Director of a Costa Rican greeting card company. Her thesis involved conducting consumer surveys to analyze the buying habits of Hispanics in the US, specifically to create a market entry plan for Latin American based firms.
As a Rotary Ambassador, she focused on disaster relief and fund raising efforts for schools in the Central American Caribbean. She also began a campaign to help Rotarians in Costa Rica recruit students for international study abroad programs. She continues to speak at Rotary Clubs in the US about her experiences with Rotary in Central America.
After graduation in 2005, she drove 3,000 miles coast to coast to relocate and begin a career in Monterey Wine Country. She now handles administration and compliance for Ventana's Out-of-State Sales department, corresponding with distributors and creating small media products for clients in 10 states. She also maintains the website.
