After Graduating from Spartan School of Aeronautics(WA) in 1987, Reggie worked for Continental Airlines until 1991 in the capacity of Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor. Concurrently he owned and managed an excavating company in Wenatchee, Washington, (Doug Meador’s hometown). Finally, before his arrival at Ventana Vineyards, he worked at Boeing Aircraft as a manufacturing engineer, again in Washington State.
Eventually, Reggie’s love of wine and wine production led him to contact Doug Meador and Ventana Vineyards in early 1997. Meador, long known for his cold climate viticultural work in Monterey, is one of the industry’s great teachers. The timing was right – Ventana was also looking for the right person to continue Doug Meador’s passion. According to Doug,“I was looking for a person with a management background, but more importantly, that person had to have the “fire” for the wine business. Reggie has more than filled the position.”
Mr. Hammond manages the vineyard operations and oversees the winemaking process for Ventana’s 400 acre Estate. His passion for winegrowing is evident in the quality of fruit from the vineyard and the beautiful wines from the winery. He and Doug Meador work side by side to showcase Ventana wines from Magnificent Monterey.
Reggie has expanded his production and viticultural knowledge with travel to Spain, Germany, France and Ukraine. “Ventana is a research vineyard based on constantly checking and analyzing our techniques for the future.
